Welcome to my journey as a level designer

This section will showcase my progress and skill as a level designer and programmer, providing brief descriptions of the projects I have worked on so far.

Stealth Ninja Level Design

The Level design for this game posed a few challenges that I was happy to embrace. Avoiding detection was the primary goal of this stealth based game. The ground elements that were added to accomplish this were strategically placed shrubs.

A combination of tight enemy patrol patterns and limited hiding spaces pushes the player to use skill and timing to accomplish their goals.

Using a grapple to access the catwalks above the guards created many alternate paths for the player to explore. The ability to move above the guards posed a challenge to design that was overcome by adding stationary sentries who rotate their field of view. Atop the buildings, speed played a more important role than hiding.

Design was further enhanced with the inclusion of a combat system allowing the player to throw knives to defat guards. The mechanic was balanced by limiting the ammunition available to the player.

Sky Pirates Level Design

Sky Pirates is my TFS (Toronto Film School) group project created in 2023. As the lead design and level designer, it was my responsibility to create/balance the games mechanics with a level design that allows the player to make the most of the the abilities we created. 

 

As a wave based first person shooter that focuses on fluid movement through a grapple mechanic, adding the verticality to make the grapple not just effective but also fun was the driving force for my level design. 

 

The design moved through many iterations as the team size, scope, and vision for the game changed. Below you will see the process of level design as it was created and adjusted in concert with the changes to the game as a whole.

Vampire Lord RPG

Vampire Lord is my 1st attempt at an RPG in Unity. It features a linear level design that is largely unfinished, instead the focus remained in the testing area to develop the features for combat and AI.
